Kinetic wind sculptures under a cloudy sky in Kayenta, Ivins, Utah

Here’s my weekly roundup of what’s on in Kayenta, the red-rock arts neighborhood on the west edge of Ivins, for Thursday, November 5 through Wednesday, November 11, 2026. After a quiet stretch, the Center for the Arts at Kayenta is back with a history talk tonight and a full First Friday tomorrow, and the giant Follow the Flag display arrives in nearby Snow Canyon for Veterans Day week. Everything below comes straight from each organizer’s own calendar. Plans can shift, so please double-check with the organizer before heading out.

Thursday through the weekend

Thursday, November 5: Voyager Lecture Series on the Domínguez-Escalante Expedition

The Kayenta Arts Foundation’s Voyager Lecture Series welcomes Dr. Charlotte Hansen Terry, an assistant professor of U.S. history at Utah State University’s Uintah Basin campus, at the Center for the Arts at Kayenta. Her talk looks at what was happening in the American West in 1776, when the Domínguez-Escalante expedition set out from Santa Fe looking for an overland route to California and ended up passing through Southern Utah. The listing shows a social hour at 6:30 PM and the presentation at 7:30 PM, with tickets listed at $12 to $25. Event details and tickets from Kayenta Arts.

Friday, November 6: First Fridays at Kayenta

The monthly First Friday fills the Kayenta Art Village, 881 Coyote Gulch Court, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, and it’s free to attend. Expect open galleries and studios, music, and a boutique market from Southern Utah Market with local art, crafts and farmers market favorites. It’s an easy, low-key way to meet the artists who make Kayenta what it is. First Fridays details from Kayenta Arts.

Friday, November 6: DOCUTAH Presents Snowland

As part of First Friday and DOCUTAH’s “Best of Fest” film series, the Center for the Arts at Kayenta is screening the documentary Snowland at 7:30 PM, followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Jill Orschel. The film follows a woman who spent decades building an imaginative art world she calls Snowland. Tickets are listed at $12. Film details and tickets from Kayenta Arts.

Early next week: open studio time at MakeSpace Kayenta

Monday, November 9: Figure Drawing Practice Session with Live Model

MakeSpace Kayenta, at 918 Art Village Way, runs its self-guided figure drawing session from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. There’s no instructor; a live model and studio space are provided, and you bring your own materials. Cost is listed at $25. Reserve a spot on MakeSpace Kayenta.

Wednesday, November 11: Still Life Practice Night

The weekly Still Life Practice Night runs from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, with three still-life setups arranged in the studio. Any medium is welcome, supplies are bring-your-own, and the cost is listed at $25. Details on MakeSpace Kayenta.

Veterans Day week: Follow the Flag in Snow Canyon

Just a few minutes from Kayenta, Utah State Parks says Follow the Flag returns to Snow Canyon State Park for Veterans Day week, November 8 through 14, 2026. The park notes that November 7 and 15 are set-up and take-down days, so the flag may be harder to see then, and it asks visitors to stay on designated, mapped trails and park only in designated lots. I wrote more about it in Follow the Flag Returns to Snow Canyon.

Snow Canyon itself is a 7,400-acre park within the 62,000-acre Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, with more than 38 miles of hiking trails and a three-mile paved walking and biking path, so cool November mornings are a great time to explore. One heads-up for later: State Parks says Snow Canyon Drive and the paved Whiptail Trail will close from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 14, for the Snow Canyon Half Marathon and 10K.

Any day this week in Kayenta

Grab a bite at Xetava Gardens Cafe, 815 Coyote Gulch Court, which lists hours of 11 AM to 8 PM on weekdays and 10 AM to 8 PM on Saturday and Sunday, with weekend brunch from 10:00 to 3:00. Then wander over to the Desert Rose Labyrinth, which the Kayenta community site describes as free and open to the public every day.

Looking ahead

The Center for the Arts at Kayenta lists Almost All to the West on Saturday, November 14, at 7:30 PM. You can browse everything coming up on the Kayenta Arts calendar or on my Southern Utah events calendar.
