Happenings in Kayenta: October 29 to November 4, 2026

Red rock cliffs near Ivins, Utah

Welcome to my weekly look at what’s happening in Kayenta, the red-rock arts community on the west side of Ivins, for Thursday, October 29 through Wednesday, November 4, 2026. It’s a quieter week on the Kayenta calendar: the Center for the Arts at Kayenta has no performances listed until November 5, so this week’s highlights are hands-on art sessions at MakeSpace Kayenta in the Kayenta Art Village. Every item below comes from the organizer’s own calendar, with dates, times and prices as they list them. Schedules and availability can change, so please confirm with the organizer before you go.

This week in Kayenta

Monday, November 2: Figure Drawing Practice Session with Live Model

MakeSpace Kayenta lists a self-guided figure drawing session on Monday, November 2, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, at MakeSpace Kayenta, 918 Art Village Way, Ivins. A live model and studio space are provided; there’s no instructor or demo, so it’s open studio time to work at your own pace. Bring your own materials. Cost is listed at $25, and spots are limited and released weekly. Details and reservations on MakeSpace Kayenta.

Wednesday, November 4: Watercolor Studio, 6-Week Class Series (first session)

Teacher Michael Tabor starts a six-week watercolor studio on Wednesday, November 4, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at MakeSpace Kayenta. The listed class dates are November 4, 11 and 18 and December 2, 9 and 16, and the cost for the series is $270. MakeSpace notes this class is for students who already have basic watercolor training, and it suggests Michael’s Beginning Watercolor Fundamentals class for newcomers. Class details on MakeSpace Kayenta.

Wednesday, November 4: Still Life Practice Night

On Wednesday, November 4, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, MakeSpace Kayenta hosts its weekly self-guided Still Life Practice Night. Three still-life setups are arranged in the studio, all mediums are welcome, and you bring your own supplies. Cost is listed at $25, and spots are limited. Details and reservations on MakeSpace Kayenta.

Also on the MakeSpace calendar: instructor Matt Pectol’s Fall Morning and Fall Afternoon Oil Painting Studio six-week sessions begin Tuesday, November 3. When I checked, both were listed as sold out, with a waitlist sign-up on each class page (morning, afternoon). You can see every class at makespacekayenta.com.

Coming up right after this week

The Center for the Arts at Kayenta picks back up the following week. Its calendar lists the Voyager Lecture Series talk The Domínguez-Escalante Expedition and Spanish Mapping of the North American West with Dr. Charlotte Hansen Terry on Thursday, November 5 (social hour at 6:30 PM, presentation at 7:30 PM), and the free First Fridays at Kayenta in the Kayenta Art Village on Friday, November 6, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. I’ll cover those in next week’s roundup. The full calendar is at kayentaarts.org/events.

Any day this week: galleries, the labyrinth and Snow Canyon

The Kayenta Art Village at 805 Coyote Gulch Court is open seven days a week, though hours vary by gallery and business, so check each one’s listing. Xetava Gardens Cafe lists hours of 11 AM to 8 PM Monday through Friday and 10 AM to 8 PM on weekends, with weekend brunch from 10:00 to 3:00.

Kayenta’s Desert Rose Labyrinth was built by Kayenta residents in the spirit of peace and unity, and it is free and open to the public daily (donations appreciated), according to the Kayenta community site.

Just up the road, Snow Canyon State Park covers 7,400 acres inside the 62,000-acre Red Cliffs Desert Reserve and has more than 38 miles of hiking trails, a three-mile paved walking and biking trail, and over 15 miles of equestrian trails. Looking ahead, Utah State Parks says Snow Canyon Drive will be closed from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 14, for the Snow Canyon Half Marathon and 10K.

Living in Kayenta

Kayenta is where art galleries, a performing arts center, desert trails and quiet neighborhoods all sit side by side, which is a big part of why people love living here. If you’re curious about the area, take a look at Kayenta homes for sale, browse Ivins homes for sale, or head back to the OwnUtah.com homepage.
