Source: “Navajo Rugs Provide Common Thread in Ivins City Art Exhibit”, Ivins City Arts Commission, by Kathy Smith, Oct 1, 2026.
There's a special art exhibit in town this fall. The Ivins City Arts Commission is presenting Navajo Children Weaving the Future, a show of traditionally woven rugs made by young Navajo children, on display at Ivins City Hall, 85 N Main Street, from October 1 through November 17, 2026.
About the exhibit
According to the Arts Commission, the show is part of the Utah Arts & Museums Traveling Exhibition Program. The young weavers learned the traditional art form through the Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program, a nonprofit that has loaned the rugs for the exhibit. The Commission's announcement describes how weaving techniques and patterns have traditionally been handed down from mothers to daughters, and how programs like this one help keep that knowledge moving to the next generation. As the announcement puts it, “In many senses, Navajo rug weaving provides a common thread.”
The Arts Commission also notes that Adopt-A-Native-Elder supports rug sales directly from traditional weavers, who receive 100% of the profits, and organizes donations of wool, food and other essentials for Elders living on the Navajo Reservation.
Visiting
The rugs are at Ivins City Hall, 85 N Main Street, through November 17, 2026. Why it matters here
Ivins has a long-standing love of the arts, from the Kayenta Art Village to the galleries at City Hall itself. Having a thoughtful, community-centered exhibit like this a short walk or drive from home is part of what makes living in Ivins special.
