Here’s a feel-good story from our own backyard. When a hurricane canceled Chalktoberfest in Georgia, a group of six Utah chalk artists who had planned to take part didn’t just call it a day. According to St. George News, they gathered at Tuacahn in Ivins instead and created their pieces during the Saturday farmers market on the morning of October 10, 2026.

A sidewalk gallery for a few hours

St. George News reports that artist Kimberly Ipson, an art teacher at St. George Academy who has taken part in chalk festivals for about 14 years, reached out to Tuacahn for a space so the group could still create together. The artists, who come from different parts of Utah, spent most of the morning and afternoon on their drawings. Subjects included scenes inspired by “The Lord of the Rings” and Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” a retro Chevrolet Impala, blue flowers, and figures in raincoats in the rain.

Fittingly, the article notes that the artwork lasted only a few hours before a rainstorm washed it away. For these artists, that is part of the fun. As one of them told St. George News, “every art piece, if you think about it, has an expiration date, and it just so happens to be that ours expires really quickly.”

Art with a helping heart

The article says another goal of the showcase was to raise awareness for the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, the Georgia museum where Chalktoberfest was to be held, since the cancellation was a financial blow for it. It also introduces a South Jordan mom with more than 20 years of chalk art experience whose daughters have followed in her footsteps, and artists who say the chalk art community is supportive and kind. Anyone curious can find the group on the Utah Chalk Artists Facebook page, as the article suggests.

Visit the Saturday Market at Tuacahn

Tuacahn’s official calendar lists its Saturday Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays this fall and winter, including November 7, 14, 21 and 28, at 1100 Tuacahn Drive in Ivins. Check Tuacahn’s site before you go.

Why it matters for Ivins

Mornings like this, with neighbors and visitors watching art take shape beneath the red cliffs, are part of what makes living in Ivins special. Tuacahn keeps giving our community reasons to gather, even on short notice.
