Rainbow over a neighborhood after a storm in Ivins, Utah

Good news for anyone who loves a racket or a paddle: Ivins City reports that the tennis courts at UNITY Park and the pickleball courts at Desert Rose Park have been resurfaced and “are officially ready for public play!”

A gift in a neighbor’s memory

According to the city’s Parks & Recreation Department, the project was partly paid for by a donation from a local resident, given “In Memory of Mike Richardson,” who loved playing pickleball at the Desert Rose courts. The rest of the cost was covered by R.A.P. (Recreation, Arts and Parks) tax funds. The department says it is grateful for the donation, which helped move the project forward.

The department also points out what makes these courts different: the red rock scenery. As the newsletter puts it, “it’s hard to beat the views from these courts.”

Why it matters for Ivins

Well-kept parks where neighbors can play a game with red cliffs in the background are a big part of everyday life here. A project made possible in part by a resident honoring a friend is a nice reminder of the kind of community Ivins is.
